Wharf T&T Awarded Gold Label in LOOP by WWF-Hong Kong
The first Hong Kong ICT service provider being honoured in LOOP for low carbon emissions

Hong Kong – November 25, 2010 – Wharf T&T, the leading information and communications technology (ICT) services provider in Hong Kong, today announced that the company has achieved the Gold Label in the Low-carbon Office Operation Programme (LOOP) Labelling Scheme organised by WWF-Hong Kong. The programme has been established to enable Hong Kong companies and organisations to become part of the solution to climate change.
By participating in LOOP, companies or organisations are engaged with a group of like-minded forward-looking leaders to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions generated from office operation via the adoption of managerial and technological best practices, staff behavioural adaptation, and a labelling scheme. There are 14 companies participating in the LOOP Labelling Assessment in 2010.Taking the pride to be the first ICT participant in Hong Kong, the Gold Label signifies the success of the company’s efforts and commitment in sustaining a green environment.

The LOOP Labelling Scheme is the first programme available in Hong Kong to assist the commercial sector to measure their office carbon footprints and take action to reduce carbon emissions from daily operations. By assessing carbon emissions from areas including electricity use, transportation and other resources such as paper use and water consumption, companies could become one of the important members to combat climate change.

"We are honoured to be awarded the Gold Label in the first LOOP Labelling Scheme. We believe that corporate social responsibility (CSR) and business objectives can co-exist, and we have taken stronger initiatives to promote sustainable economic, social and environmental development. Understanding that the commercial sector could play a key role in creating a low-carbon environment, we are pleased to take part in the LOOP to make the change. The honour is a compliment of our cross-team efforts to implement green office practices in every part of our daily operations," said Florence Cheung, Vice President, Human Resources, Wharf T&T Limited. "Through participating in the Scheme we hope to promote climate-friendly practices amongst the ICT industry and raise the green awareness among our employees."

The evaluating tools used by LOOP are based on international standards such as the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol to assess the carbon performance of participating companies. Scopes of LOOP include direct emissions from fuel consumption in company-owned vehicles, indirect energy emissions from the use of office lighting, computers and office equipment, and other indirect emissions such as fuel use due to business travel or staff commuting to work, and emission generated from paper use.
