Wharf T&T Selects Juniper Networks to Provide High Resilience and Ultra-low Latency Network Infrastructures for HKEx's Hosting Services Data Centre

Hong Kong - May 18, 2012 - Wharf T&T, a leading telecommunications and ICT service provider in Hong Kong, today announced that it has been awarded a multi-million Hong Kong-dollar contract by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) to supply, implement and maintain the network infrastructure for its Hosting Services Data Centre in Tseung Kwan O.

To support HKEx’s initiatives to build the best-of-breed Tier 4 Next Generation Data Centre, Wharf T&T designed the state-of-the-art network solution for HKEx with ultra-low latency hosting services infrastructure which is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2012.

Wharf T&T selected carrier-class Ethernet switches from Juniper Networks to provide an ultra-low latency network infrastructure that is highly scalable, resilient and is fully compatible with the SDNet/2 backbone network. It is a consolidated core network with traffic isolated across each system that provides multi-layer network protection and ensures fairness among different service subscribers over network traffic. The solution offers seamless integration with existing systems to minimise the impact on HKEx’s operation.

Mr Vincent Ma, President, Wharf T&T Limited said, “Wharf T&T has a wealth of network experience and know-how accumulated over decades in the finance industry and has been a trusted service provider for HKEx since the early 2000s. We have a proven track record in network service management and application implementation. Our experience in the SDNet/2 backbone enhancement project gives us further advantages in providing seamless connectivity to HKEx’s hosting network. We are honoured to be part of HKEx’ Hosting Services project and our solution is well positioned to support HKEx’s future expansion strategies. As a major ICT service provider in Hong Kong, Wharf T&T will continue to strive for excellence while maintaining focus and dedication to help build a sustainable financial market in Hong Kong with our ICT expertise and knowhow.”

“Hosting Services is one of our key IT initiatives set out in our infrastructure strategic plan. We will provide low latency access to HKEx Securities and Derivatives markets, as well as direct connections to our market data feeds,” said Jonathan Leung, Head of Hosting Services, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing. “Our ecosystem approach will support efficient communications among exchange participants, information vendors, technology and network service providers in a highly secure environment. Wharf T&T has been our entrusted service provider and we look forward to working closely with them to establish this critical network infrastructure.”

“In the world’s major securities markets, every microsecond counts,” said Douglas Murray, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, Juniper Networks. “Competitive edge can be driven by the speed, reliability and security of a trading platform’s network. HKEx’s deployment of Juniper Networks’ QFabric™ architecture in its Hosting Services Data Centre will help create a high-performance network with ultra-low latency.”
