Attainment of Gold Award in '2015 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence'
Wharf T&T Data Centre and Office Automation Shine

Hong Kong — June 3, 2016 — Wharf T&T is proud to attain the Gold Award in the ‘Media and Communication’ sector at the ‘2015 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE)’ in recognition of its outstanding environmental contributions and effective green management in business operation. Winning the Gold Award this year fully demonstrates Wharf T&T’s commitment in achieving environmental excellence.

The implementation of office automation such as e-Bills, e-collateral, e-Forms and e-enquiry has delivered remarkable achievements on the carbon footprint by reducing 95% paper consumption. Moreover, the launch of a document management system (DMS) service, Doc:brary, helps both Wharf T&T and its business customers substantially improve their carbon footprint in achieving a paperless office. Doc:brary is a web-based DMS for companies of all sizes to manage paper and electronic documents in an effective and flexible way on a centralized multifunctional platform.

Apart from the all-out efforts in implementing and promoting office automation, Wharf T&T also extends its ambitions in environmental protection to its Data Centres with concrete effort to minimize carbon emission and energy consumption including the installation of LED and T5 fluorescent lamps, smart light zoning system, implementation of dynamic cooling management with room temperature sensors and sequential control logic for chiller operation. Annual savings at Wharf T&T’s Tsuen Wan data centres in regard to the amount of electricity purchased exceeds 2 million kWh in which contributes to the reduction of over 1.4 million indirect GHG emission in kg of Co2 e. COL, an IT services subsidiary of Wharf T&T, was awarded 'Industrial Leader' level of the Sustainable Energy Efficient Data-center (SEED) verification programme for its Cable TV Tower data centre in April 2016. It brings environmental conservation to the fore through the SEED verification program running alongside with the existing ISO 14001 Environment Management, ISO 2000 IT Services Management and ISO 27001 Information Security Management.

HKAEE is recognised by the community as one of the most prestigious and reputable environmental award schemes in Hong Kong, this is the 8th annual award which saw over a thousand eligible applicants competing in fifteen industry sectors.
