Winning Gold Again for WTT in Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence
Merit Attained for Extensive Green Measures, Paperless Office and Waste & Energy Reduction in Offices and Data Centres

Hong Kong — May 15, 2018 —  WTT is proud being honoured with the prestigious Gold Award again in “Media and Communication” category at the 2017 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence. Mr. Vincent Ma, CEO of WTT, received WTT’s second triumph after 2015 from Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of HKSAR, in an award ceremony held in May corroborating WTT’s proactive and rewarding environmental policies over the years.

The highly credible Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence, initiated by the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) presented together with the Environmental Protection Department and nine more organisations, has been held for a decade and widely recognised for its meticulous rating mechanism. 1,614 organisations from 15 different sectors joined the race this year, where the judging panel finally selected winners who excel in environmental management, being exemplars in “Green Leadership”, “Programme and Performance” and “Partner Synergy”.

Green Data Centres from Design to Operations

WTT effectively reduces carbon emission and energy consumption in its office and data centre operations by strategically implementing green measures from design to build. Environmentally-friendly designs have been incorporated during construction of WTT’s data centres. Dr. Gaby Kun, Senior Facilities Manager of WTT, explains,  “To ensure even cooling of the volume with minimal wasted energy, applying raised floor air-conditioning system in our data centres helps optimise cooling effectiveness. The hot-cold aisle arrangement also improves air flow and ventilation. Both strategies reduce energy demand from the air-conditioning system.” WTT’s data centres are certified to ISO 14001 Environment Management System, ISO 2000 IT Services Management System and ISO 27001 Information Security Management System.

Green Habits Become Routine in Office Fully Supported by Staff

Paperless operation is a key target for WTT in its office and for its customers. WTT adopts the award-winning Human Resources Management System (HRMS) developed by its IT service subsidiary, COL, has eliminated paper use significantly with the introduction of eForms for leave application, payslips, petty cash claims, etc. This HRMS solution also benefits numerous COL clients enjoying the same green habits as WTT do. Instead of paper acknowledgement, e-acknowledgement is also used for customers to sign-off after service installations. Moreover, Brochures and leaflets in digital versions are widely adopted to lower demand of printed versions.

Exchanging programmes for items such as housewares, books, toys, school bags and stationeries are frequently held in WTT’s head office with an aim to make a difference to the environment as well as society by recycling surplus and gently-used items for the needy. Green measures such as recycling glass bottles after company events and requiring colleagues to bring their own cups for company activities are hugely supported by all staff. Green habits are now becoming routine in the office.

Highlights of WTT’s green thinking will be shown in a special feature TV programme broadcasted on TVB Jade later in June.
